Jacob & Co.’s Astronomia Sky
“As a sailor heading toward the seas driven by the celestial vault, I found my star: the Astronomia Sky”, says Jacob Arabo, founder of Jacob & Co.
Those words sum up how we feel about this beautiful piece of horlogerie, the Astronomia Sky is one of those watches you could stare at for hours without realising.
Besides being stunning, this timepiece is carries high complications and a one of a kind tourbillon, a gravitational triple axis tourbillon.
After the successful launch of the Astronomia Gravitational Triple Axis Tourbillon in 2014, Jacob & Co. decided to add a unique feature, a a sidereal display in three dimensions combined with an oval sky indicator and a 24-hour day and night display.
The celestial dial of the Astronomia sky, like the earth, takes one year to complete a full rotation and to stay in the astronomical theme the side of the watch is engraved with the 12 Zodiac signs.
Above the dial there is an oval sky indicator showing the star visible from the northern hemisphere and pretty much like the dial, and the earth around the sun, it completes its revolution in 24 hours.
One would think that creating such a timepiece would be close to impossible, however Jacob & Co.’s watchmakers took it upon themselves to create the impossible.
They made the Astronomical Sky possible by adding an extra bow. The timepiece boasts two bows and two wheels on its back, making setting the watch an easy task. One bow is for setting the time and the day/ night indicator while the other bow is for winding the mechanical movement.
As watch aficionados we are really amazed by the Astronomia Sky and to savour even more here is a video of the brand’s famous triple axis tourbillon.
