Kempinski Cigar Lounge by Zechbauer Munich
In celebration of its 160th anniversary, the Grand Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski Munich has launched a luxurious cigar lounge. Colin Finnegan, interior architect of the Amsterdam-based studio FG Stijl has created a magical venue of Royal Bavarian flair with a modern twist, offering the latest in technological amenities. The lounge is the brain-child of Mirko Pettene, cigar expert and Managing Director at Zechbauer.
The new Kempinski Cigar Lounge by Zechbauer is Munich’s most exclusive lounge for those with an appreciation for cigars, cigarillo, and pipes, whether they’re staying at the hotel or visiting the Zechbauer Cigar store. Guests can enjoy the world’s finest cigars courtesy of Max Zechbauer, Germany’s most established supplier of fine cigars and appointed purveyor to the Royal Bavarian court. Now, in its seventh generation, the company has opened a cigar shop at the Vier Jahreszeiten with direct access to the lounge.
Colin Finnegan’s interior design pays homage to the ambience of classic British gentlemen’s clubs. Guests can relax in leather armchairs in front of an authentic 19th century Louis XVI fireplace. To commemorate the property’s former owner Alfred Walterspiel, an original portrait of the famous chef hangs proudly above the fireplace. To further honour the hotel’s long-held traditions, Finnegan worked in some distinct elements into his design. Elements like the hand-made silver relief of swans, an ode to the royal residence of Wittelsbach. A photograph of the swans, taken in the conservatory on the roof of the palace of Ludwig II, inspired Finnegan to recreate this ornament. The original photograph itself adorns the Wittelsbach Residence to this day.
