More Than A Facelift

Ferrari used this year’s Geneva Motor Show to unveil the GTC4Lusso, the four-seater, 12-cylinder replacement for the Ferrari FF.

Like the FF, the GTC4Lusso features a ‘shooting brake’ design, with two doors at the sides and a hatchback boot lid. Inside, there are four seats large enough to accommodate adults, appointed in much leather and luxury so that families can now tour across large distances in ultimate comfort. They’ll also be going extremely quickly.

The GTC4Lusso’s V12 develops 690 hp and 697 Nm of torque. And with a dry weight of 1,790 kg, Ferrari claims that the GTC4Lusso has a record-beating power-to-weight ratio in this category. Either way, that amount of power is good for a 1-100 km/h dash in 3.4 seconds, and a top speed of 335 km/h.

Like the FF, the new car features four- wheel drive, courtesy of a new system patented by Ferrari. The 4RM-S (four-wheel drive and steering) system now incorporates the electronic differential (E-Diff) and the SCM-E dampers. The name of the system also points to another feature of the new car—four-wheel steering, which Ferrari says will allow drivers to “effortlessly” handle the enormous amount of torque even on snow- covered, wet or low-grip roads.

The GTC4Lusso’s high levels of performance are also due in part to new aerodynamic solutions, not least a new front grille with integrated air intakes to improve the efficiency of the radiating masses, the air vents on the wing that recall those of the 330 GTC, a roof-mounted rear spoiler and a new triple-fence diffuser.

Certainly this will be an important car
for many Ferrari owners. The FF gained a reputation as a truly user-friendly Ferrari that could be driven day-to-day. Its fans were younger than traditional owners, and they clocked up 30% higher mileage than the average Ferrari owner. The Prancing Horse will be looking to keep those numbers up with the GTC4Lusso.
