Mercedes SL: Open-Top Pleasure

Mercedes updates its convertible SL range with new engines and design touches.

Mercedes-Benz recently unveiled the 2017 SL, with looks that echo last year’s model range. New for the upcoming year, though, is the addition of the SL400, which features a V6 engine with 367 bhp.

The new SL500 has also been updated with a new V8 that now produces 455 bhp. Additional variants include the two Mercedes-AMG models in the guise of the SL 63 and SL 65, the latter with a V12 engine.

A Performance-Based Convertible

The high-performance roadsters, SL 63 and SL 65, combine the hallmark AMG driving performance with the pleasures of open-air motoring and superior comfort on long journeys. New colours to the distinctive Mercedes-Benz palette include brilliant blue and designo selenite grey magno, while the range of 48.3 cm (19 inches) light-alloy wheels has also been signi cantly extended.

The lavishly appointed interior has also been updated with an expansive variety of leather upholstery colours and interior trim options.

A rich palette of full-grain, smooth nappa and supreme supple designo leathers complement hand-finished matte or high-gloss wood, textured aluminum, or genuine carbon fiber. Carbon trim and the analogue clock in IWC design highlight the high-performance roadster’s natural elegance.

Comprehensive individualisation of the interior is possible with the broad selection of leather finishes and trim elements.
