There’s only one Le St Géran
For the ultimate in luxury escapes, we head to Mauritius to hide away in the One&Only’s unparalleled Le St Géran
Nestled in cobalt blue waters Mauritius lies like a jewel in the Indian Ocean’s crown, offering shores of powder white sand fringed by coconut trees, fields of sugar cane and the craggy mountain ranges of La Rivière Noire. Its dramatic natural beauty would be enough to attract any number of visitors but Mauritius distinguishes itself in the luxury category; firmly established as the go-to destination for those in search of breath taking resorts, impeccable service and culinary excellence.
This level of five-star luxury is epitomised by the One&Only Le St Géran, nestled peacefully on the shore of its own private peninsula on the north eastern coast of Mauritius. The resort takes its name from the ship that was wrecked off the coast as depicted in the romantic island legend of ‘Paul et Virginie’. A popular spot for honeymooners, Le Saint Géran is nothing if not exclusive and laid-back, with a variety of accommodations, including 162 rooms and suites. For the ultimate escape, there is also a two-bedroom villa set amongst the lush gardens with a team of highly trained staff on hand to cater to any desire.
Le St Geran is also an epicurean delight as the mix of Creole, Indian, French and Chinese cultures found on the island is represented through the food on offer at the resort. Michelin starred chef Vineet Bhatia runs the fabulous Rasoi by Vineet, offering the same level of award-winning contemporary Indian cuisine for which his London restaurant is renowned. Resorts guests can also dine in the recently-opened PRIME Contemporary grill as well as La Terrasse, which offers both local and international cuisine.
Given the resort’s location, the sheltered lagoon provides the perfect arena for a variety of watersports and a Bernard Langer-designed golf course is no distance at all and is accessible on a complimentary basis for One&Only guests. The eastern coast of Mauritius is particularly beautiful, with miles of coastline to explore and the stunning Ile aux cerfs a short distance to the south, the team at Le St Geran can assist with advising on where to start planning excursions off site. The Mauritian capital of Port Louis plays host to some stunning botanical gardens, the sugar cane plantations are impressive to wander through and there are even several rum distilleries on the island that shouldn’t be missed.
If this all sounds rather exhausting then the One&Only spa is the perfect place to unwind after a long day’s exploring or a hard day on the beach and is nestled within the lush tropical landscape of the resort grounds. Bangkok-based landscape designer, Bensley Design was responsible for creating the beautifully landscaped spa gardens that lead to the Garden Spa Pavilion. Guests access the pavilion over an exotic garden walkway, suspended over water with idyllic views of gardens, sea and sky. The spa runs in partnership with ESPA and Treatments are designed to nurture the body and rebalance the body.
The island of Mauritius is a delight for the senses and delightful for those in search of the perfect luxury haven. One&Only resorts are conceived as hallmarks of excellence and Le St Geran is a perfect of example of this concept well executed. Go, experience it. You won’t be disappointed.
