Versace Has A New CEO

Versace has announced the name of the successor of Gian Giacomo Ferraris.

After 12 years at the head of Alexander McQueen, Jonathan Akeroyd has been appointed CEO of Versace. He will assume his new duties in mid-June 2016.

Akeroyd has just been replaced by Emmanuel Gintzburger, new CEO of Alexander McQueen. After making his debut in retail at Harrods in London as a store manager, Jonathan Akeroyd became  the head of Alexander McQueen in 2004.

During 12 years, the businessman has promoted the expansion of the British brand, promoting the development of new products such as accessories and perfume lines. He also led Alexander McQueen in line with the spirit of the founder of the brand, while overseeing the appointment of Sarah Burton as Creative Director.

“We are delighted to welcome Jonathan Akeroyd as our new CEO,” said Donatella Versace, Vice President and Artistic Director.  “Jonathan brings a proven track record in building global brands, steering growth and driving strategic development. Jonathan Akeroyd’s industry expertise and vision will be key to advancing the next phase of Versace’s development.”

Jonathan Akeroyd predecessor, Gian Giacomo Ferraris joined the house in 2009. At the time, the financial position of the company was somewhat complicated. Ferraris was then able to revive growth Versace at 17% per year from 2010 to 2015.

A success recognized by Donatella Versace, “Gian Giacomo Ferraris did a great job in which to write Versace among the biggest luxury brands in the world”.

Versace, which had sold 20% of its market share to the US funds Blackstoneen in February 2014, plans to invest the stock market. Ferraris had indicated late 2015 that it would depend on market conditions but that “it will be done as soon as possible.”

In March 2016, Versace had also announced plans to invest over 50 million euros in expanding its distribution network and the development of its e-commerce business. Online sales of products Versace have also increased by 31% in 2015.

“It is an honor to be joining such a dynamic and innovative organization. Versace is an iconic lifestyle brand recognized globally as a premier name in luxury.  I look forward to implementing a long-term business strategy that supports the visionary and creative direction of Donatella Versace and her team.  This is an exciting opportunity to take Versace to even greater success,” said Jonathan Akeroyd.
